President's Report

We have some exciting events coming up in the next couple of months!  First, we’ll kick off this month’s meeting on February 19, with a special presentation.  Mikaela Myrin, the President of the Student ASHRAE Chapter at UTSA, has been awarded the National ASHRAE Society’s Frank M. Coda Scholarship!  We have the honor of presenting her with the scholarship certificate at this month’s meeting.  In addition to the National ASHRAE scholarship, Mikaela was also selected as the first-place recipient of the Alamo Chapter’s scholarship, so we will also be presenting her with the Alamo Chapter Scholarship Certificate and check.  Congrats Mikaela!

We’ll then introduce this month’s speaker, Felipe Reyna with Accurex, who will be discussing the basics of kitchen HVAC design.  In keeping with this year’s theme, we hope this topic will be beneficial to all, but especially to the younger designers, engineers-in-training, and engineers.

Then, we’ll kick off a busy March with a special meeting on the evening of March 14th.  I’m excited to announce that the Alamo Chapter will have the honor of hosting the National ASHRAE president, Sheila Hayter.  Mrs. Hayter is a Senior Engineer with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and was recently recognized by ES Magazine as one of 20 to Watch: Women in HVAC.  She will present her presidential address, “Building Our New Energy Future – What Building Professionals Need to Know about Changes Coming to the Electricity Sector”.  Please invite your electrical colleagues, clients, and any others who would like to hear about our energy future.  Stay tuned for details regarding the exact time and location.

We will also have our regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 19th, at the Alamo Drafthouse North Park.  The topic for this meeting will be Pumping Considerations.

We’ll wrap up March with our annual golf tournament on March 28, at Canyon Springs Golf Club.  Teams are filling up, so please register soon if you haven’t already.  Please remember that this is one of our two big fundraisers for the year.  The money you donate supports local scholarships and national ASHRAE research.  See the attached flyer for more information.

I look forward to seeing you many times in the next couple of months!

Rick McHugh, P.E.
